
JOSEPH LOGGIA - Chief Executive Officer Joe Loggia was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Advanstar, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary Advanstar Communications Inc. in January 2004. Mr. Loggia is responsible for all aspects of business strategy, operating performance, organizational development, finance and administration. Since being named CEO, Mr. Loggia has led the effort to develop and implement a new strategy, which transformed the Company from a traditional B2B publisher and trade show producer to a market-focused media company, which leverages strong product positions to achieve long-term sustainable growth. He also spearheaded the successful divestiture of certain assets to Questex Media.
As President and Chief Operating Officer from 2001 through 2003, Mr. Loggia led the efforts to enhance Advanstar's operating efficiencies by re-engineering key business processes, implementing state-of-the-art data systems, new business development procedures and rewards, and a new growth-based management compensation system.
As President and Chief Executive Officer of MAGIC International, Mr. Loggia repositioned the MAGIC Marketplace, dramatically growing EBITDA in just three years and turning it into the most comprehensive, largest and most widely recognized apparel trade show in the world. Mr. Loggia led MAGIC's acquisition by and integration into Advanstar when he joined the Company in 1998. Prior to joining MAGIC, Mr. Loggia, who is a Certified Public Accountant, was a manager at the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand responsible for Fraud and Financial Investigations after spending ten years as a police officer. FASHION & LICENSING CHRIS DEMOULIN - Executive Vice President, Fashion & President, MAGIC International Chris DeMoulin was appointed Executive Vice President, Fashion and President of MAGIC in January 2008. He is responsible for the growth and strategic direction of the MAGIC Marketplace, strengthening the alliances between exhibiting and retail customers, and developing initiatives that drive increased Marketplace value globally.
Mr. DeMoulin has extensive experience in the fashion, retail and marketing sectors, having held the position of Senior Vice President, Retail Alliances of Disney’s Consumer Products Group. At Disney, he was responsible for the strategic planning and execution of all business and product development, setting global retail and merchandising strategies, and leading the marketing, retail planning and trade activity for Disney Licensing in North America. He successfully reenergized Disney’s relationships with major U.S. and international retailers, overseeing a dramatic increase in retail sales of Disney’s licensed products from $11 billion to over $20 billion globally in just 5 years.
Prior to joining Advanstar, he held the position of Executive Vice President, Marketing at Philip Anschutz's film production company, Walden Media, helping to build and launch the successful Chronicles of Narnia film franchise. Before Disney, Mr. DeMoulin spent 9 years with the New York office of advertising agency DDB Worldwide.
GEORGIANN DECENZO - Executive Vice President, Licensing, Market Development & Europe Georgiann DeCenzo was named Advantar's Executive Vice President, Licensing & Market Development, in March 2006. Prior to this appointment, Ms. DeCenzo served as Advanstar’s Vice President, Marketing & Communications, and was responsible for corporate communications, marketing and research. Since joining Advanstar, Ms. DeCenzo has held numerous strategic marketing roles at the Group and Corporate levels.
Before joining Advanstar, Ms. DeCenzo served as Marketing Director of Penton Media’s flagship publication IndustryWeek, where she launched a conference division and pioneered sponsorship sales for events and online. LIFE SCIENCES STEVE MORRIS - Executive Vice President, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical & Science Steve Morris was named Executive Vice President of Advanstar's Healthcare, Pharmaceutical & Science groups in June 2005. Mr. Morris joined the Company in January 2004 as Vice President of Market Development and successfully reorganized and transformed that group into a more customer-focused and efficient sales organization, which led to expanded growth opportunities and increased revenue. Prior to joining Advanstar, Mr. Morris served as Chief Operating Officer at Metro International Newspapers from 2002-2004 and as President and Chief Executive Officer of Profile Weekly Magazine from 1999-2002. A media veteran with more than 31 years in newspaper and magazine publishing, Mr. Morris has held senior level corporate management, sales and marketing positions with companies that include: Metro International, Harte-Hanks, The Los Angeles Daily News, Times Mirror and Knight-Ridder. POWERSPORTS & AUTOMOTIVE DANIEL PHILLIPS - Executive Vice President, Powersports, Dental & Veterinary Danny Phillips has served as Executive Vice President for Advanstar's Powersports & Automotive group since 2003 and has led the Company's aggressive growth efforts and numerous product launches in the Automotive Aftermarket, Off-Road and Motorcycle segments. Prior to leading the Company's Powersports & Automotive group, Mr. Phillips served as Executive Vice President of Advanstar's Technology group where he managed a portfolio of 23 publications, 35 Web sites and 17 trade shows and conferences located in the U.S., Hong Kong, Brazil and Europe. Mr. Phillips has been managing publications, events and electronic media in the Business Management, Financial, Telecommunications, IT and Auto sectors since 1984, holding management positions with EMAP, Thomson and Haymarket in the UK, before moving to the United States to join Advanstar in 1997. Prior to Advanstar, he won the UK's International Business Magazine of the Year Award with Communications International, and was responsible for launching the U.K.'s first weekly computer networking publication, Network Week and Europe's first telecommunications portal web site, totaltele.com. CORPORATE STAFF THEODORE S. ALPERT - Executive Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer Ted Alpert has more than 20 years of management experience, having recently served as Chief Financial Officer of IPS Corporation, a leading manufacturing company owned by Fremont Partners. Previously, Ted held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at both Transtar Metal Holdings, Inc. and Centis Inc. He also served in various finance positions of increasing responsibility at Avery Dennison, Inc. after beginning his career in finance at Getty Oil Company. ERIC I LISMAN - Executive Vice President, Corporate Development Eric Lisman has served as Executive Vice President - Corporate Development for Advanstar since November 2001 and is responsible for development of the Company's product portfolio, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other strategic alliances. Mr. Lisman joined Advanstar in September 1998 as General Counsel and managed the legal affairs of the Company through February 2005.
Prior to joining Advanstar, Mr. Lisman engaged in a private legal and investment banking practice representing a wide range of clients from independent entrepreneurs to multinational corporations. He also served for ten years as Corporate Counsel and General Counsel of Reed Publishing USA, the parent company of Reed Exhibition Companies and Reed Business Information. Prior to joining Reed, Mr. Lisman was engaged in a litigation and employment law practice with the Boston law firm of Nutter, McClennen & Fish. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Harvard Law School.
During his over 20 year career in the media industry, Mr. Lisman has successfully analyzed, negotiated and completed more than 150 acquisitions and 50 divestitures of publishing, trade exhibition and other media properties and companies, both in the US and internationally. He has structured and consummated numerous equity investments, joint ventures and strategic alliances with an emphasis on leveraging traditional assets to create shareholder value.
TONY CALANCA - Executive Vice President, Exhibitions Tony Calanca joined Advanstar in 2006 and is responsible for the continued growth and direction of the company’s exhibitions. Mr. Calanca has over 25 years of experience with large-scale domestic and international trade and consumer exhibitions and conferences. Prior to joining Advanstar, Mr. Calanca was Senior Vice President at Reed Exhibitions. He also co-founded a small entrepreneurial trade show firm, Infinity Expo Group, which, coupled with his Reed tenure, has given him proven experience with established large profile events as well as new launch initiatives. Mr. Calanca is an active member of the exhibition community and is a frequent speaker at industry events. NANCY NUGENT - Vice President, Human Resources Nancy Nugent was appointed as Advanstar’s Vice President, Human Resources in September 2006. She is responsible for aligning employee needs with business objectives to create the optimal work environment for team development. Ms Nugent has extensive HR experience across the media, publishing and retail sectors. Prior to joining Advanstar, she served as Vice President, Human Resources of Gemstar – TV Guide International, and Warner Bros. Studio Stores. FRANCIS HEID - Vice President, Media Operations Francis Heid has served as Vice President Media Operations for Advanstar Communications since June 1997. Mr. Heid has been instrumental in improving the Company's operating efficiencies in all areas of production, circulation, fulfillment, and Web operations. His circulation expertise was recognized by the industry in May 2003 when he was awarded the prestigious Angelo R. Venezian Award from the National Trade Circulation Foundation (NTCFI) for his achievements in B2B Circulation Management. He is also Chairman of ABM's (American Business Media) Circulation Committee and a member of the BPA International Board of Directors. Mr. Heid has been with the Company since 1987 and served as Corporate Circulation Director prior to being named to his current position. WARD HEWINS - Vice President, General Counsel Ward Hewins has served as Advanstar Vice President, General Counsel since February 2005 and is responsible for all the day-to-day legal functions for the Company. Mr. Hewins provides the business units with advice on matters including intellectual property issues, contract negotiation, editorial rights and FCC/FTC regulatory compliance. From July 2000 to February 2005, Mr. Hewins was Advanstar's Deputy General Counsel. Prior to joining Advanstar, Mr. Hewins served as Assistant General Counsel for Interactive Data Corporation from March 1998 to July 2000. MIKE ALIC - Vice President, Electronic Media Group Mike Alic was named Vice President of Advanstar's Electronic Media Group in April 2006. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Alic served as Vice President & General Manager of Advanstar License Group, leading the launch of a series of License Executive conferences, as well as the category expansion strategy of Licensing International Expo. He joined Advanstar in March 2004 as Business Development Manager, developing several new products and businesses in the company's travel, pharmaceutical and licensing groups. Before joining Advanstar Communications, Mr. Alic was an equity research analyst with Robertson Stephens in San Francisco and Vice President of Internet, Services and Memberships at Trader Classified Media, playing an instrumental role in that company's growth from $50 million in revenue in 1993 to $250 million in 1999. J VAUGHN - Vice President, Information Technology J Vaughn joined Advanstar in May 2008, and is responsible for the planning, coordination and design of all IT operational activities. He is also charged with identifying and developing cost effective technology solutions in support of business operations.
Prior to his role at Advanstar, Mr Vaughn was Vice President, Operations at Entertainment Partners, where he supervised all hardware, software and help desk functions, successfully managing the re-design and re-engineering of the network’s infrastructure. Mr. Vaughn also implemented new Sales & Project Tracking, and Customer Relationship Management systems. Previous to his tenure at Entertainment Partners, Mr. Vaughn was the Vice President, Information Technology at 101 Communications, a B2B magazine company. Mr. Vaughn holds a BS in Computer Science, and an MBA from Pepperdine University. |
